Elijah Aller

Born in 1975 in the mountains of Northern California, Eli began flame-working at the age of 17. Indeed, much of his work over the years has been inspired by his early days spent surrounded by nature.

Melting glass scraps onto mandrels to make beads in a friends stained-glass studio gave Eli his first experiences with the medium, and for the next 3 years he pursued flame-working as a hobby.

In the fall of 1994, he began using boro, and glass became a full-time seasonal job, as he worked as a Grand Canyon river guide in the summer and blew glass and skied in the winter.

In 1996, he took his first class with Bandu Scott Dunham, which was to be the first of many learning experiences with some of the masters of glass.

He began casting and fusing glass in 2000, and in 2007 became artist in residence at the Mesa Arts Center in AZ where he learned to blow glass in the furnace. As adjunct faculty he also taught classes in flame-working and fusing.

During his 17 year career, he has participated in 9 flame-off competitions and his work has been featured in the “Contemporary Lampworking, 2nd edition”, The Flow Magazine, Glass Art Magazine and Vetro Magazine.
