Marcel Braun
Marcel Braun is an emerging artist and glassblower. After lampworking for the first time in 1996, Marcel set out to educate himself by taking classes with a wide range of professional glass artists. Marcel has been fortunate to learn from master glassworkers such as Brian Kerkvliet, Shane Fero, Roger Parramore, and Emilio Santini, as well as participate in a myriad of less formal artistic encounters which have contributed to his unique style.
"I've tried to incorporate as many different styles of glasswork as possible rather than emulate one tradition or another. Ultimately, it is the flexibility of the artist that limits the expressive potential of glass as a medium."
In addition to working with glass sculpture, Marcel is becoming known through his company, Living Glass Works, which specializes in meeting the equipment demands of 33 coe glasswork, as well as having spent time as a Board member of the Eugene Glass School.
Marcel has organized and executed such projects as 'Project 33' in 2003 and 2004, a process oriented workshop that uses cutting edge equipment and his previous experience making very large scale borosilicate work, as well as the skills of many talented lampworkers to build and donate a large sculpture to the Annual Eugene Glass School Auction and Benefit. This effort raised nearly $13,000 for the school.
Marcel has been featured in The Flow magazine and has successfully competed in many flame-off events including the Crystal Myths Albuquerque Flame-Off where he took second place. His work is in the corporate collections of Northstar Glass, Carlisle, Coatings by Sandberg, and Glass Alchemy. Marcel also has work on display at Dementia in Malibu, CA and at other locations.
